blacktop paste shines
like winter midnight
only a patchwork
a quilt of work over days
but still harrowing
this thin brown body
jaywalking
across a closed road
sells it
i found myself swimming
o
to go through a moment with
just one less sense
for one less moment!
it’s not in my heart
it’s a little behind it
and above and to the center
by my shoulders
but under
on top of my breath
you can’t miss it
wintry mix
glistening object
where is your shrine?
whom will you ask for
shelter as the day wears on?
the slug returneth
hinged and stretching
currently useless and
on the closet shelf
but a silent reminder to
keep checking
to keep adding to the list
i love details
a shifting of papers
reveals coffee stains
if we saw ourselves trudging
i think we’d want to know
are we killers, are we safe?
i’ve lost my close eye;
i must appeal
to the vast emptiness inside all of us
late at night
I pour over the thesaurus
for synonyms for universe
the cars wait as long as they need to
i’ll rust, they seem to say.
sirens and two by fours and a thick yellow
light covering the herd
pictures start small and get bigger,
this is no mystery
