The heat.
The buildings make
the shade and the shade
makes a public

space possible

i waited and waited
for some word to come
but none came

the new ways
the new ways have aged
and are on the way out

Dry mouth, too many smoothies not enough veggies, you know what I mean

like winter midnight

only a patchwork
a quilt of work over days
but still harrowing

this thin brown body
jaywalking
across a closed road
sells it

o
to go through a moment with
just one less sense
for one less moment!

it’s a little behind it
and above and to the center
by my shoulders
but under

on top of my breath
you can’t miss it

lots of ‘the day after’ vibes

walking around the block
seeing the morning
at the end of the night
for the first time

listening to it
though the headphones later. making
increasingly sad mixtapes

i play the odds,
i like my chances
i pull rank on the white car
and my panting delights the sky
how hard to breathe, now,
under the hood?

glistening object
where is your shrine?
whom will you ask for
shelter as the day wears on?

hinged and stretching
currently useless and
on the closet shelf
but a silent reminder to
keep checking
to keep adding to the list
